BORN IN CONCRETE

An affinity for desaturated palettes, a somewhat retro aesthetic, and a yearning for other worlds are all elements that define Derek's work. Trained as a classical animator, Derek works as a concept artist in the game development field and as a freelance illustrator. He has worked on projects for Nintendo, Microsoft, Marvel Entertainment and Simon & Schuster to name a few.  His personal work, Entartete Kunst, (EK), has been featured in numerous publications and exhibits, as well being translated into snowboard graphics and model kits. His first art book, Born In Concrete: The EK Series was published by Design Studio Press in late 2013.

BORN IN CONCRETE: THE EK SERIES

A 96 page, large format hardcover book that collects work from the personal project Entartete Kunst. All the pieces that make up the first series are featured, along with write-ups and detail images. The design materials for the Endeavor Snowboards and the Industria Mechanika collaborations are included, as well as images from several exhibitions. The book also contains a process section that outlines the creation of one of the pieces from start to finish, and to cap it off,  a bunch of EK material that hasn't seen the light of day, or that was created specifically for this collection.

Published by Design Studio Press, and available in the Shop, on Amazon and at other fine book retailers.
